Introducing dresses by janiette postindustrial!

Jane, the owner and maker, creates unique handmade clothing, as a way to contribute to sustainable fashion. She thrifts pre-loved, post-consumer clothing, cuts them apart and sews them into dresses and tops. Her specialty is making these pieces front/back reversible! She loves combining prints and she has an eye for putting wild and playful combinations together which work to make something truly unique, in simple, flattering and wearable shapes. She loves to make people feel beautiful and special in her clothing.

I've selected a collection of 7 dresses to offer you here on my website. These were selected for their ability to work on a shorter woman's frame. Her sizing is rather organic, so what I've done is select different sizes and compare them to the sizes in the EcoPetites line. They are listed without sizes, but rather as style A through G, with A being the smallest and G the largest. Look carefully at each listing and note the measurements of the person wearing the dress in the photo. Each listing is for ONE dress.

How do you wear these dresses?

I love that the fabrics are all pre-worn, which makes everything soft, and residual conventional fabric-chemicals are as washed out as much as they will ever be. She also washes everything before cutting and sewing. These dresses will not shrink. She selects fabrics made of cotton and rayon, avoiding any polyesters, which also make them breathable and very comfortable for the summer.

Having said that, I wear my dresses from her line all year! I just put on tights and layer on top with sweaters, jackets and button down tops. I also use form fitting body-suites or long-sleeved tops underneath to wear in cooler weather. These all look great with the EcoPetites Phoebe jacket, which I made sure to photograph so you get the idea, as well as get hints on what color jacket will look great with each dress.

Where can you wear her dresses?

What I love about her dresses is the versatility. The pre-loved fabrics offer a casual air about them, which means I wear them to anything, anywhere casual to a little dressy  (but shy of formal.) Because it is a dress, and a bit artsy, it makes for a more put-together look, and elevates casual style up a notch, while still feeling comfortable.

These are also great for travel. As Jane uses such a mix of fabrics, these often look completely different when worn the other way. You can also wear these day to night, just by going from sneakers or flats to strappy heels, adding a little jewelry and zhuzh up your hair a bit.
